Campbell River is home now. I grew up on the prairies, between Saskatoon, Edmonton, and the towns around them, before moving to Vancouver Island.
Photography started early. My grandfather kept a darkroom and was a capable photographer in his own right; I was invited in only a handful of times as a kid, but watching him work left an early, lasting impression. High school photography classes gave me access to a darkroom and film equipment where that love was rekindled, and I still work in both film and digital today.
My mother always had some kind of point-and-shoot camera nearby, and she passed on her love of building stories through photos and documenting family projects. My first "real" photography project was around age 13 — setting my model cars on fire and shooting pictures that mimicked car crashes from TV. I was thoroughly questioned about the safety of that project once the film came back.
I worked in an art gallery, and later ran a marketing agency representing local Vancouver Island artists — watching their conviction in their own stories gave me the courage to start expressing my own ideas through images and writing.
